What is Addiction?
Addiction, also known as Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a primary, progressive, chronic disease characterized by the misuse of alcohol and other substances, often resulting in drug-seeking behaviors and compulsive substance use that is difficult to control despite harmful consequences.
Whitney Young Health (WYH) recognizes that addiction affects not only individuals struggling with an alcohol or substance use disorder, but also their family members and friends.
