In the late afternoon of Tuesday, February 18, Shaker High School seniors Vaishali and Labika braved the icy rain (with the help of Vaishali’s dad) to deliver over 500 children’s and young adult books to Whitney Young Health.
The books were collected by Rising Readers, a teen-led service organization co-founded by Vaishali and Labika in 2019 to help children in New York State achieve literacy by providing the proper supplies to rise as readers, thinkers, and dreamers.
The books received will be sorted by age group and subject by WYH volunteers before being distributed to young patients in need.
Thank you to Vaishali & Labika (left and right, above) and to all of the students and staff at Shaker High School who participated in the Rising Readers book drive!
