Maria College receives the Community Partner Award at annual fundraiser.
Whitney Young Health’s annual fundraiser, The Legacy Event, was held on October 6, 2021 at the Albany Capital Center. This event recognizes and honors community leaders who are making a difference in the Capital Region and benefits individuals and families who rely on Whitney Young Health for affordable medical, dental and behavioral health care.
This year’s Community Partner Award was presented to Maria College in recognition of their partnership with Whitney Young Health in providing nursing students to administer COVID-19 vaccines at large community vaccine clinics earlier this year. This collaboration not only provided hands on practical experience for the students during a historic pandemic, it helped vaccinate over 10,000 people in local communities who face barriers to traditional care.
“This collaboration brought much needed hope, relief and direct intervention to patients living in communities that experience greater health disparities and health inequity”, said Whitney Young Health President and CEO David Shippee, “Maria College students were an integral ingredient to the recipe for success in the mass COVID-19 vaccine clinics, and we could not have done it without them!”
Thomas J. Gamble, Ph.D., President of Maria College shares, “I am incredibly proud of our nursing students and faculty who have distributed over 10,000 vaccinations to those in our community, many of which from very vulnerable populations. It is with great honor that we accept the Community Partnership Award at this year’s Whitney Young Health Legacy event and celebrate our joint partnership in this important work.”
